‘Interludes’ is the first of two commissions for Paul Taylor at the Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music. These electronically composed interludes have been designed for broadcast through venue PA systems before, during and after live concert performances at the 2023 festival.

Although it seems to emerge as a fully-formed composition, "Interludes" is completely unedited and entirely improvised in the moment, within the one-hour framework required by the festival.

The CD edition of this release remains as one complete piece of music (for maximum audio quality through Bandcamp streaming this has been broken into two segments)

The second commission for the festival, ‘Permutations’, is an improvisational score performed by Jonathan Bradley on the Edith Adamson Carillon at Newcastle Civic Centre, with the music being heard outdoors and across the city on three occasions throughout the 2023 festival.

Both compositions feature shared bell motifs, harmonising indoor and outdoor performances with a festival soundtrack that evokes the presence and sound of the Carillon throughout all the events.

This unique album has been exclusively produced for NEWJAiM Recordings and will enchant audiences at the festival and beyond.
